Will Van Der Sloot Escape A Peruvian Prison Sentence?
I read Van Der Sloot recanted his confession about murdering that young woman in Peru. He's scared. He's afraid of getting murdered in a Peruvian jail by prison thugs. Rightfully so. Maybe, too, he thinks if he confesses to the Aruba authorities he killed the Holloway girl, he'll get a cushy jail sentence in Aruba instead of a nightmare in Peru. That could explain why he said he'd only talk to them about the location of Natalee Holloway's body.
Maybe he has illusions of getting off with his recent claim his confession was forced. I cannot see him getting out of this trap he created. The police in Peru even have some DNA from under the victim's fingernails that might seal the case against Van Der Sloot. On the other hand, I thought he was going to get convicted for the Aruba murder, yet he got off.
If by some miracle, or the dark arts of a high powered attorney, he beats the charges in Peru, I don't think he'll make it out that country alive.
I hope justice gets served swiftly and surely in this case. Like many, I feel he murdered Natalee Holloway in Aruba and should have been sentenced for the crime. I hope this time Justice gets served hot and piping and Van Der Sloot gets fried in a Peruvian court.

The Dutch Are Concerned Over Van Der Sloot "Show Trial"
I read the Dutch expressed concern Van Der Sloot would get a fair trial because, in their words, the police in Peru were parading Van Deer Sloot around like they had a trophy.
This is a bad PR move on the part of the Dutch media voicing this unpopular opinion and appearing to dress a monster in the tattered clothes of a victim. I say bravo to the brave police in Peru and to the brave police in Chile for apprehending this self-confessed murderer the Dutch are so concerned about.
And it's not like the evidence was weak with a corpse and a video filming Van Der Sloot and the woman entering the hotel room with Van Der Sloot leaving without the woman four hours later and nobody else entering or leaving the room until hotel personnel found the woman's body. What the hell were the Dutch thinking?

Peru Has No Jury System
I read today Peru has no jury system. To some this may sound unfair. To me it sounds better than ordering random people to judge cases of law, some who wouldn't want to sit on a jury. I would prefer people legally trained to weigh the evidence over people with no experience in law who might be swayed by attorney tactics or contrived testimonies a judge or trained juries would see through.
Here's a response a poster on a forum wrote about Peru not having juries:
"....the reasoning for no juries is that, in general and especially in cases like this one, with all the news coverage people have already informed about it, and many have made up their minds (all you have to do is read the postings here) , and if you find people who have not heard about it, they might not be up to the requirements to make a legal decision. Add that juries are not legally trained, the system prefers a three judge panel to make the decision."
This makes better sense to me. Judges schooled in jurisprudence, experienced in court room proceedings and witness examinations. Let's expunge the jury system in America and replace it with a model like Peru's.

Yay! Van Der Sloot Is In Custody
I'm glad they nabbed this guy. I remember in the Holloway case how arrogant he was. And the Aruba investigation seemed bungled, or fixed by money and the influence of his judge father, who has since passed away.
In this recent case, one news article claimed authorities found date rape pills belonging to Van Der Sloot in the victim's car. This doesn't surprise me. In the Holloway case, she had to have been drugged to get in a car with three male strangers in a foreign country. You may know travel warnings caution women to watch out for date rape drugs all over the world. So, it's not a stretch to believe the Holloway girl had been drugged in Aruba.
Supposedly, this guy has made confessions to the Aruba crime in different parts of the world. Allegedly, the Aruba authorities claimed they needed proof beyond the confessions. Since when? Why didn't they haul this guy in yet another time and see how far he was willing to go in these confessions? Baffles me, but I hope this time he gets nailed for what appears to be damning evidence.
I wonder how many other woman may have died or mysteriously disappeared after an encounter with this guy, like the way police find more corpses than they expected when they arrest a serial killer. May this monster get his due ... finally. Better, may this monster come clean on the Holloway case and bring closure to Natalee Holloway's parents.
